I believe culture and values are defined and constructed different for each organisation (of course…). I also believe that culture and values need to avoid complexity, and yet need some form of ceremonial statement to make them visual to the group and others. It is simultaneously including and excluding – your part of the culture, or you are not (if its appealing you want to become part of the culture!).

The really hard ting is to find the balance of simplicity and visualisation. “People comes to us – they know (or will know) what we ask from them” – Gothenburg Brass Band, the cross, The Marines, Apple etc.

And even if you find the right mix of simplicity and visualisation, the hardest test is time. Culture and values need time to come to life, the organisation needs to live the values a long time before it becomes the culture.

If your values are the right ones, they will last the test of time. The longer they stay, the stronger the culture becomes.

Hello,

well my favorite "change stuff" book is not specific to Kanban or agile at all. It's called Switch and is an excellent book for learning a lot about how people and organizations take in change, and how to implement change in a effective way.

When it comes to Kanban books I think that David J Anderssons Kanban book is a must. But it doesn't talk too much about implementing change.

These two books has helped me a lot. Good luck!

e.g. project management that touches all dimensions - human, technical and process.

I have 2 other kanban books I am about to start reading -- but thought best ask the expert first.

i realised after treading my first agile book, then my first kanban book...

this is doing what ive always done
i never got into the big projects reingineering 50+ consultants.

it was me, client (many) and perhaps 1 or 2 support.

so the 3 points i had were on delivery of "whatever"
1 make is simple
2 make it easy
3 FUN

and approach to "share" on what deliverying
1 visible - transparent (good and bad)
2 be able to hold it like a ball, so anyone can run with it, if need be at moments notice (limit work in PROCESS - like that switch too)

the above approach was only possible as I wasnt using a client server base technologies to deploy. Wasnt just pre-Cloud days. Still highly configurable.

I have since I wrote this post (a bit upset at the time), restarted and picked up git command line. It took the TekPub videos (http://tekpub.com/productions/git) and two solid weeks of each day practicing but know I got it.

Will not ever go back to a GUI either.
